What to Look for in a Dog Pen

If you have a dog that you wish to keep outside, then you will want to purchase a quality dog pen or dog run. Following are some things you will want to consider before purchasing a dog pen:

• Are you going to keep your dog outside at all times?
• Do you want it to be portable?
• Do you need to have a top for your dog pen? For example, pitbull dogs must be kept in a pen with a top in many states.
• Do you want your dog pen to be lockable?
• How much room do you have and how big do you want the dog pen to be?
• How high does your dog pen need to be?
• How much do you want to spend?

If you are not looking for a permanent dog pen, there are many portable options available. However, permanent dog pens should definitely provide your dog with shelter from inclement weather. You might want to include a dog house inside the pen if your dog will be kept in it all the time.

Remember that even if you decide to keep your dog outside all the time in a dog pen, they still need to have gone through basic dog training at a minimum. You don't want a dog that is a nuisance or that does not know how to behave around people when he is out of his pen.

Also remember that even if you give your dog room to play in his dog pen, he will still benefit from daily mental and physical exercise with you.
