Taking Care of Unwanted Dogs

More and more Humane Societies and dog adoption centers are looking for ways to keep dogs who do not get adopted alive. Therefore, they've begun adopting programs like Sponsor a Dog. These programs are similar to child sponsorship programs where you pay a certain amount each month or year to pay for food and care for a child or in this case a dog.

Prices and types of these programs vary. While some sponsorship programs have a set price per month, others allow you to choose the amount you spend. While some have you sponsor a specific pet, others allow you to pay for the price of a "kennel" for one year that pays for the cost of food, boarding, and medical care for whatever dog is put in that kennel.

Some sponsorship programs allow you to pick the dog from a group of pictures while others assign you the most needy dog when you sign up. One dog sponsorship program I found allowed you to pay one price and "save" a dog from being euthanized.

Many of these offer the sponsor extra benefits like pictures of their dog, subscriptions to magazines, updates, and other items. Some organizations have get togethers and picnics for dog sponsors. You can even choose to sponsor a dog as a gift for someone else.

Sponsor a dog programs can be great fun for individuals, school groups, and businesses. You can do good for a canine friend and feel good yourself in the process.
